After receiving a referral for admission, the Manager will communicate with the appropriate Social Worker and gather all the data needed to make a determination about whether the placement is appropriate for the young person's needs and how it will likely affect the other young people already residing at the home.

The admittance would be scheduled to include introductory visits in both the Mercia home and the existing placement after a compatibility evaluation.

Prior to making decisions about suggested placements, the relevant Risk Assessments must be finished and background data must be gathered. The home manager would make sure that enough information was available to evaluate the risks of admitting the new placement to the home if the referral was for an emergency bed.

If it is believed that Mercia Children services is unable to meet the needs of the Placing Authority or the Young Person, the Young Person will not be accepted.

Only after the Home Manager has finished the Compatibility Risk Assessment are emergency admissions accepted.

Within 72 hours of admission, a planning meeting will be held to determine the duration of placement and to facilitate the creation of a care plan.
